And yea- Humour over here is somewhat different to the US. Don't come across many "Yanks" over here but in general they are a dour lot. Sarcasm and Cynisism is the way our humour works and I blame that on John Cleese and Dud. You just didn't have the upbringing that we had.

But Good choice on the bike

And before I offend again---"Yanks" is the word that is still used in the South of England since we had so many visit the area in the mid 40's. America is a big place- There is the southern Continent aswell and they are also Americans.
