I know the Path (Tustin) and Rock and Road (Anaheim Hills, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, Irvine) charge around $50/day for a demo bike and I'm pretty sure that that money can be applied to the purchase of a bike. Both are good shops, but I prefer the Path.
bicycle johns has a similar program, you can try as many bikes as you like for the day/price and it will be applied to your purchase of a bike
