These days unions don't exist for the common good; they've become lazy and greedy. I used to work in union shop (up until the company went bankrupt) and was not at all impressed with the union. They paid themselves a nice salary by taking an hour's wages from each of each every week, but never did anything useful.

But back to the transit strikes. Two of the major transit agencies here have threatened strikes recently but they reached an agreement with management before the strikes happened. Service got cut nevertheless.
