Peanuts and Bananas to get some potassium in you to take care of the lactic acid. Take a day off every once in a while till you get your strength up and let your body recoup. A lot of the acid build it is due to cardio limitations. If you get to panting you are not able to provide enough O2 to the muscles and it causes a large amount of lactic acid to be produced. I find as I approach a hill I stat taking extra deep breaths almost hyper ventilating trying to get my O2 up some before I hit the hill. Seems to help in that on my regular routs I seem to be less out of breath when I crest the hills then when I don't do this.
