It isn't nearly as bad as people make it sound, especially coming from downtube shifters. You just have to rotate your entire hand clockwise and reach up with your thumb. Slightly inconvenient at worst.

Also, they shift extremely well when coupled with an ultegra RD and a dura ace FD, with an ultegra cassette and sram chain.

They also seem to be very well built, the newer ones with the shift indicator window anyway.

Poor things get such a bad rap around here
