You get a Reynolds 520 Butted steel frame versus the no name generic trek steel frame which doesn't say it is butted or not. The fork is cromoly on the Jamis versus the cheaper high tensile steel on the Trek. Also the Jamis has a threadless headset(modern standard) versus the Trek's quill stem (old style). If the reach to the handlebars isn't exactly right you will have a lot easier time finding the right threadless stem length and rise versus quill stems. Lastly, the Jamis is a 24 speed bike versus the Trek's 21 speed.
