So we've narrowed it down to:
loose headset;
cracked headset;
cracked fork;
chain slap;
headset cup greasing;
valve stem alignment;
cable slap;
headset slap;
stem bolts;
skewer tension;
bad wheel build;
seat post...
Can I just add, stem face plate. If your bars slip in the stem even a mm this makes a "cracking" sound.
