I'm glad to see that you are enjoying the bike! Be patient-in a short time, when your wife becomes more confident and is able to relax more, you will find the whole balance thing a non-issue. It is natural for the stoker to take a while to totally relax, because she can't see alot of what's coming. Picture yourself in a tight double paceline on an unfamiliar road, without the option of being able to pull out of line! This is what she feels. You can help by calling out major bumps and possibly adding a shockpost, and don't decend big hills at a crazy speed if she's not good with it! My wife learned what kind of motion upsets the applecart, such as grabbing her waterbottle at a stop without telling me, etc. She weighs somewhere in the mid 130's and I never have to put my left foot down, unless we are going to be waiting for an extended time. My wife can now almost read my mind. She knows that I need to have the left pedal at around 10:00 o'clock to get moving again, and it always gets there. Your Jackson has a pretty short wheelbase, so a trackstand might not be in your immediate future, and very slow speed handling might be a little more difficult. If you were to try a Santana, like mine, with it's relaxed head tube angle and longer wheelbase, after riding your bike for a while, it would probably feel like it has autopilot! In my humble opinion, the more challenging thing is to get to the point where both riders are putting in equal (to them) effort, all of the time. Even after 20 years of riding the tandem together, sometimes I am trying to ease off just a bit, and my wife compensates and pushes more! So, we still have to talk sometimes!
