Nuclear. Solar. Wind. Geothermal. Hydrogenerated. There are plenty of non-polluting sources of energy.
There are alternatives to standard electricity, but just try and get these made without a huge furore.
A company down here was going to build 70 wind turbines and place them along part of a coastal ridge, about 6 miles inland. The hills that were zoned "acceptable" for the project are barren and brown all year, not a single plant or house on them. You should have heard the locals (on the plain) b!tch about ruining the hills face zone. "Why should we have to look at those ugly things" etc. The company then reduced the amount to 35 windmills, the residents still b!tched. The company is now thinking of taking the project interstate. It was originally a $200million AUD project, that has been discussed for 12 months and the new government now want to spend another 12 months discussing.
Clearly some people want clean electricity, so long as they don't have to give up anything for it.
We used to live in this area, but my parents moved because my mum hated the constant wind through the valley.
CHEERS.
