Not sure what part of the country you're in, but around here touring often means riding on interstates, and I can't imagine a cyclist taking the lane on a road with a 70 or 75 MPH speed limit.
meh, often on I-25 between Denver and the Springs traffic on the shoulder is faster than traffic in the lane.
