Nothing to do with getting dropped, it's the going in circles 30+ times. Seems very redneckish, nascar to me, which I can't stand to watch. *shrug*. When I run a marathon, it's all continuous unique terrain, I specifically avoid the double lasso ones. Training for those the most loops I usually do, triple 9 milers, ugggh super mindnumbing.
But century rides aren't very competitive, or timed, and it's kind of meh.
And here's how we know you aren't a bike racer. In a crit, you won't be bored. It's not like a marathon where you're out to finish and that's a successful day. You're racing other people, not the course.
