My Curtlo is made with True Temper S3 steel which wasn't available in the 60's.
My finished bike with Centaur Gruppo and Reynolds wheelset weighs in at 17.75lbs. Decidedly NOT 60's.
Carbon may be the latest, greatest and newest but that doesn't mean steel is the same as it was 40 years ago.

It's all "tongue in cheek" regarding steel. There is something to be said for improved technologies like how far steel has come and the development of carbon as examples.
Both materials are good choices. Both choices have shortcomings. It really comes down to personal preferences.
