+1 on the lacing, makes it harder plus is raises the center, most likely the cause of your numbness and the uneven surface of your saddle. I've only considered laces when the saddle began to feel like a hammock.
+1 on the adjustment. When I switched a Swift for a B17 it was terrible, although I had used the B17 with success before. Spent a couple of days making small adjustments, riding 10 miles, another adjustment until....bingo... the perfect spot.
More than beak in, I think the saddles require careful adjustment.
