i do my own repairs and mods. Not able to do everything, such as wheel building (I'm going to try it at some point). Bur for example, I changed out old MTB rim-brake eslatomer forks for disc brake air-spring forks (Magura, Rock Shox and Fox), and mounted the new disc brakes on disc-brake wheels, which work nicely. I've done a 7-speed casette to 8-speed cassette changeout by buying a 9-speed Miche, and removing a cog per Sheldon Brown, changed DT 7 to aerobar-end DA 9 speed indexed, then had an accident which severely torqued my wrist, so I installed a flatbar, and applied an old friction MTB shifter, which I had in my garage. On my MTB, I put on a Clunkerz era BMX bar for the wrist, going to longer cables and housings to accommodate. When my wrist healed, okay, back to a modern MTB bar.

I've switched out an old 600 rear derailleur for a new Ultegra. I've put on new cranks and rings. I think I can build a wheel. It might take me 20-30-40 hours.

I have an old Schwinn-family-owned ("real Scwhinn") 1989 974 58 cm. I can adjust it to fit me 6'1", my 6'2" son, my 5'8" wife. So that they can ride for 35 mi and have fun. My wife should really have a 54, but she has fun on a 58. It's not too big, dialed down. She was riding on some Specialized two-strap SPD shoes. She had to stop and rest from pain after 20 mis. I got her some Sidi Eagle Pros (from wiggle). Two velcro straps and a ratchet top buckle. No more foot pain. I don't even get to ride Sidis.

I like working on bikes. I like morphing them to fit my needs (including disabilities).
