Having been involved in music for many years (I started playing guitar back in the seventies) I have learned that if one thing is true, it's "different strokes for different folks".
People listen to music for different reasons and expect different things from music.

I'm a "roots" type guy, I play blues and 'grass and singer-songwriter stuff. I like clever lyrics and hot licks and improvisation. The sort of music referred to as "trance" or "house" or "industrial" or whatever of dozens of other different sub-genres you might mention are not my cup of tea.
Boring and repetitive. Same applies to most any sort of dance music.
'Druther listen to Son House doing "Death Letter".

But as I say, different strokes. I had a lieutenant once who listened to music only because it put him to sleep. Geez, I listen to music to get excited!
Enjoy!
