A group of Cascade Bicycle Club commuters did a winter lighting demo/competition a year or two back, and they've talked about doing it again. Some are on the east side and some on the west, Mercer Island would be a happy middle location. Parking lot might not be quite dark enough for a really good lighting competition, but the unlit trails are minutes from the shop.
If you're going to do a light show, definitely post about it on the CBC Commuter board as well.

Meanwhile, great to have a shop right across the street from work -- friendly staff, great selection for a new store, even if you didn't have 3/8" track nuts in stock, at least they knew what I was asking for!
