A couple days late in posting this, please forgive...

Tuesday morning. Temperature at 7:30 a.m. in the high 50s or low 60s. No wind to speak of, as I recall. Traffic pretty standard (medium-heavy). All in all a very pleasant ride until...

...I'm on my final approach to work and am preparing to make a left turn. I check my mirror and glance back over my left shoulder. There's a car coming up pretty speedily but far enough back that I feel confident as I signal left (I'm a flamboyant signaler, by the way; I leave no mystery as to my intentions, ever) and begin to steer into the left-turn lane.

And here comes the car I observed seconds before, passing on my left no more than perhaps a foot from my mirror. The woman driving clears me and then steers right to pass on through the intersection. Not turning left, mind you, but heading straight on. As she drives on her only reaction to my obvious consternation and the meaningless syllables burbling from my lips (at full volume, naturally - and why is it that I can't ever scream something coherent in such a situation? I must have sounded like Nell to anyone within earshot) was a vague flapping of her right hand. I have not a clue what the gesture was meant to communicate. "Oh sorry! My bad!"? "Off my road, d!p*****!"? I'll never know.

That mere moment has been rattling around in my head for most of two days now.

I believe I mentioned in at least a couple of posts to this forum that my commutes have been unfailingly serene. I guess the honeymoon's over. :irritated
