I've read Sheldon''s excellent "chainline" article several times, and I still find the subject confusing.

Question:

Referring to Sheldon's article, if I add the dimension from the "Chainline (From Shoulder)" column of the "Fixed (Track) Sprockets" table to the dimension in the "Chainline (Center to Shoulder)" column of the "Single Speed and Fixed Gear Hubs" table, will that give me the rear chainline?

For example, a Campy 3/32 cog dimension of 7mm plus the Campy C-Record Large flange hub dimension of 35.9mm equals 42.9mm.

OK.
I can live with that.

However, how do I put together a Bottom Bracket and Crankset combination that gives me the same assembled dimension as a given hub and cog?
Wouldn't I need similar tables with dimensions for the BB spindle, crank and chainring?

It seems to me I should have the ability to buy the components ahead of time knowing they will produce the same chainline dimensions.
Sheldon has given us the means to determine the dimensions for the back part, but where do we get the dimensions for the front part, and how does the front part all work together when assembled?
