Giving Bike Commuters a Bad Name
I've been off the bike for a few days because of a cold, and I saw an example today of why bike commuters sometimes get a bad name. I was riding a subway train that was extremely crowded, when this guy with his mountain bike comes on board and manages to block most of the doorway with his bike. An elderly lady had to yell "excuse me" two or three times and basically bash his bike with her walker in order to get past him to the handicapped seating section. Other people had to shimmy between the seat and the handlebars if they wanted to exit the train. By the way, this was the Red Line Subway in Los Angeles, and there are designated areas for bicycles in every other car - seemed like this guy just wanted to get on and if he was in your way, too bad. I can see why transit riders and cyclists are sometimes at odds because of this behavior. Does anyone else have a multi-modal commute where these kind of incidents occur?
