I giggle when I read that it's cheaper to build up a bare frame than to buy a complete bike. Yes, if you have a bunch of old parts lying around. If you have to buy parts it can get expensive really quick. I couldn't build up a Trek Portland style bike with the same spec for less money. Maybe it's possible but I always thought it was cheaper to buy a complete bike.
