All 70s and 80s, only steel.
Thing is, it's a freewheel--first time I took it in to the LBS, they said switch it. But I didn't have the cash at the time. Next time, the guy looked at the teeth on the old cogs and said 'ah, no problem, this will work fine--it's not too worn, it's supposed to be like that.' It's an old SunTour friction indexed system, so I'd have to replace with a Shimano, which many told me is no problem. But I'm looking to sell the bike, and don't want to keep throwing money at it. Should I just leave the old chain on and advise the new buyer to change it all themself, or should I swap it all myself and charge a higher price for the bike? Do I really need to change the chainrings ALONG with the freewheel/cogs?
(Can we all say, 'money pit?'
