My LBS has been doing a lot of frames lately and I've had a good look at several colors. He also has a display stand with blasted and coated pieces of angle iron in different colors.

Here's what I've learned (from what basically is a co-op/apprenticeship relationship with my LBS). The BB needs to be properly taped. A BB tap is expensive. The alternative is several hours with a sharp tool of your choice. A coater who has done bikes before shouldn't make this mistake. My LBS owner says he hasn't had issues putting the crown race back on, but you could have the coater tape that area off if you're worried. Removing the baked-on tape residue from chromed stays can also be a pain, but that won't be a concern to you.

Solid colors produce a thicker coat than semi-transparent colors. I have seen two frames done in clear powder coat (with some sparkle or metal flake). I like 'em. The frames weren't polished so they are essentially a metallic grey. This allows the goldish color of the brazing to shine through. Rustic but attractive.

I'll be having my '87 Voyageur and its fenders coated in a semi-transparent color called Copper Translucent. I've also really been a fan of the white and off-white colors I've seen.

I'm not certain, but I think the easiest way to get a two-tone color scheme is to have the frame coated one color, then mask off all but the head tube and spray it with paint, then clear coat over the entire frame.

Yours is an ideal candidate for powder coating. It's not like there aren't plenty of Centurions around in that color scheme. Have fun with it and make it your own.

Cool to hear that you're from Evansville. I grew up in rural western Kentucky not too far from Evansville.

Here's a photo of frame my LBS had coated in clear. You can't really see the details well in this photo.
