I've seen this same situation in a boxed up 70's Norton Commando, and a '69 Martin D-18.
Who wouldn't like a sparkling new Commando?
The D-18? Well that is just a guitar, no better and maybe worse than the same model available today.
I suppose in every interest area there are "boxed NOS" stuff selling for lots more than what would seem sensible. Especially if to be enjoyed for what was intended, it would have to be destroyed of its "mint" status.
