You might just cut a 1/2 - 3/4" piece of MTB inner tube and wrap it around the outside. Makes a nice bumper if you drop it. Will be black from the side...

Other than that, you need to grow a pair if you're going to do case mods. Bust the thing open, paint the case, reassemble, hope for the best with respect to water resistance.
