I recently got a nice road frame manufactured in 2003, never used, and it has a 1" head tube. It seems that most head tubes are now 1-1/4"...is that better than 1"? Why is that? Advantages, disadvantages...?

Just curious, want to increase my cycling knowledge.

Thanks in advance.
