Oh really? Remember, the engine on transit buses is in the rear, and if they are coasting up on a cyclist (because they have to slow for the cyclist), they are virtually silent. A city transit bus once passed me on the left just before I made a left hand turn.... and the bus had to cross the DOUBLE YELLOW to pass me! When I signaled my turn I almost touched the bus. I didn't know it was there until it was passing me. If I had turned a second earlier I would have been directly in front of the bus. I've had other close calls with city buses as well, and almost all are predicated on impatience on the part of the driver.

Our city is implementing bus-bike shared lanes in the downtown area and frankly the prospect scares the helloutta me. As 009jim says, they want to move along at a faster pace than bicycles and seem (at least to me) to be among the most inconsiderate and intimidating vehicles on the road.
