Update: just picked up a pair of 661 Altis gloves. They don't appear to be quite as robust as my old Yokos, but definitely a step up from those flimsy "racerboy" things. The padding is high density and covers the whole palm - why do so many glove makers use such flimsy padding, and so little of it? My only reservation is the location of the velcro: on the "under" side of the wrists, where it can cause a pressure point against the bars. Overall, I like 'em so far. And for $17 bucks a pair, they're quite the value. We'll see how they prove out.
