Inkwolf just made the 600th post on this thread--a milestone of sorts. 'Great way to describe the feelings we have on our commutes.
My commute today was nothing compared to yesterday, with the feelings I had. But I had three little rides, and was able to get some bread on the way home from a very good bakery (Great Harvest in Hillsboro). I rode for only the second time near where I ended up in the hospital (the first was two days ago, when I got the ice cream). I'm not riding that stretch again in the same way that I did it, but this was a personal milestone for me.
I enjoyed passing a whole string of cars waiting for a red light using the bicycle lane. Later, on another stretch, I was able to do it again on a wide roadway. That felt good too.
There is one place where I get off the road, onto a sidewalk for a short time, and turn into a bicycle path toward home. The turn is a short downhill, and I stand on the pedals as I descend, enjoying the sensation somewhat akin to being in a current in clear water diving. It made me feel alive, and the bike was silent enough to send a cat galloping through tall grass to escape the weird creature which was descending upon it.
