Congratulations on the newfound speed, TeeSquare. When you passed other people, did you hear the doppler effect in their voices? It's fun to go quickly, and it's also a lot of fun to push yourself.

My fastest average speed on a decent ride is around 20 mph. I can get myself going faster than that on the flats, but there are hills everywhere around here, and it takes much longer to climb than it does to descend, so that destroys my averages. And those days take a lot out of me ... but they're good for the ticker. A lot of the time I'll take a more relaxed pace.

Sounds like that might be your briefest ride, but probably not your fastest.
