For a teacher I have to recommend the Northeast. It's a progressive area with good schools, strong unions and the quality of life overall is topnotch. Every kind of activity you want is within driving distance. Ocean, mountains, rural and big city life. The biking is phenomenal as is surfing, skiing, mountain climbing, and fishing, deep sea fishing in particular. The Arts are well represented with theater, museums, and festivals. The Northeast is also very environment friendly.

Another big advantage of the Northeast is tolerance. Whatever your politics, religious or lifestyle choices may be, you will feel safe knowing that you can live your life comfortably and not worry about retributions and discrimination. The Northeast won't vote away your rights.

I have never been to the Pacific Northwest but also heard from trusted friends that that is also very teacher friendly and environmentally conscious area.

Reading a couple of the other posts make it easy to learn the places to avoid, doesn't it?
