have fun bro...i also love the classic geometry and lugs, but man youll enjoy a modern bike! youll mostlikely spend 800+ because shoes and pedals are not included...but be observant, many shops offer great deals on pedasl bottles and shoes when you insist...


i like specialized, but have a good time with your dad, and shop around, try out some bikes...id recomend a used bike but theres to many variables in the used market...

worry about the frame, components are not as important no matter what salesrep says....frame should be comfortable, should fit correctly and you should like it....
