Another vote for straight to the road bike.

One more bit of advice: look for a used one to start. I hate the idea of people paying for a new entry level road bike right off the bat. It may be that you will find that you never need anything better. But even so, in all likelyhood in year (or even a month or two) you will have a much better understanding of what you want/need in a bike and it's doubtful that you will be spot on with that decision now.
