If I’m going to be preparing one-pot meals of dried pasta or rice were actual cooking is involved, I like a wider pot with a versatile lid. I have an old MSR Alpine set and just use the smaller pot with lid. It’s not that light, but it’s tough and easy to clean. Plus the lid can be used as a fry pan. http://www.trailspace.com/gear/msr/alpine-2-pot-set/
That is the same set I use. I leave the smaller pot home and carry only the larger one. This has worked well cooking for 1, 2, or 3 people. I have cooked mostly one pot meals, but have also cooked multi course meals one course at a time.

This set is a little heavy, but I have grown kind of attached to it. If I were buying new, anodized aluminum would probably be my first choice.
