Even though I rarely have to pull, it really does a number on my body. It seems to take me 3 days to completely feel "normal" again. Does this about sound right?
I'm 54 btw.

I'll usually skip two days after my fast ride of the week (it's not 30 mph, but we do a lot of hill climbs). And I average about 100 miles a week during the season. So your question sounds reasonable to me.

After the break (5-10 minutes) where I might have a couple fig newtons or a gu gel, I would go back with the group, and it would be easier than on the way was (and wind wasn't a factor, I actually like it when there is a head wind because it slows them down some) I always wondered why your body adjusts/adapts this way.
btw, there are a couple other 50+ guys in this group.
It takes me about 40 minutes to feel completely up to speed. (And last winter, my cold fingers would stay warm after that amount of time, too)
