I posted a thread very similar to this about a year ago, and got a lot of good advice:

the until now unpublished epilogue: After confirming my saddle position was correct, I ended up installing a drastically shorter stem- height was good for me, but length was out there- it was originally my dad's bike, and he's a couple inches taller than me, but most of his height is in his torso, whereas mine is in my legs, so frame size between us was compatible, but he had to go with a 120mm stem- I replaced it with a 80mm

!!!
Another thing worth noting, which I believe I mentioned in my thread, was that I had a tendency to tense my upper body when riding into a headwind. Along with rolling my shoulders every now and then while riding to loosen up, I also do occasional "posture checks" while riding, especially on inclines and headwinds, just to make sure I don't become complacent in a cruddy position.
