Solvang Double Century

I did the Bass Lake Double Oct 9, it was tough 202.5 with 10,500’ of climbing. Most of the climbing was between 80-135 miles.

Fast forward to this past Saturday Oct 16, I’m back on the bike doing the Solvang Fall Double. I ended up with 202 miles and 10,900’ of climbing. It’s tough ride with a climb in the center portion that has pitches between 12-16% and 2 miles of dirt road at the top. In the evening when the sun went down the fog rolled in. It was the wet soupy kind that was almost like riding in the rain. It was dark, raining, the road were jet black and slick and cars going by at 65 mph.

I did finish and I was tired. It had been a long day, 14:08 on the bike and 16:10 on the course. This was the 8th double I’ve done for the year and I have one more to do, Death Valley Fall Double Oct. 30.
