When bike manufacturers went over to threadless stems, they took away much of the choice in choosing a good stem that fit you to your bike.
With threadless stems, after adding spacers and a stem riser, if its still not where you need it to be, you've got problems.
The idea behind threadless stems was to make road bar changes easier but little commends them over threaded stems.
