I wouldn't call the worst recession since 1929 "rolling through just fine". Maybe you got through it just fine, but many of us aren't doing too well. And if we have reached peak oil, this is just the very first taste of what the future holds.
I don't remember oil playing a major role in the financial crisis. Yeah, it doesn't help, I know, but the current recession wasn't caused by high oil prices.
