servicing dura ace quill stem

I have one on my '76 fuji track:

When I climb hills (in the drops), the stem creaks slightly. I would like to grease the stem clamp bolt, but I am hesitant to remove it. It can only be reached with a long 6mm wrench, from the same access site as the steer tube tightening bolt.

I'm afraid once I remove and grease the clamp bolt, it may be tricksy to replace it - getting it to stay on the wrench, blindly trying to re-install it.
Any suggestions?
