As long as the bike is ridable and I'm able to ride I won't call for a ride. I have only done that once when I broke a spoke. Even with the brakes released the wheel rubbed to much to ride it. If I had a tool to remove the pad I could have made it. The way it is now my wife wouldn't be home to call so I'd be walking.
