New cycling shoes - sandpaper cutout?

So I just bought a new pair of DMT Mag Force shoes on ebay... they came with all necessary screws as expected but also two cutouts in the shape of a cleat. The cutouts are sandpaper on one side and peel-adhesive on the other.
How do I use these? Do I put the sticky side on the cleat or on the sole of the shoe? The sole itself is made of a Magnesium alloy and is very smooth/slick.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated as I want to try them out ASAP!
