It seems you have it backwards. My scope of cycling is broader than most people's, not more narrow. It's quite obvious there's very little love for non-roadies in the 41, but I ride
all kinds of bikes, including road bikes. I don't see how disks could possibly be worse than calipers in any way except for weight, and that is extremely low on my list of importance, as I said. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks, by far. So to answer the OP, there are plenty of reasons to use them on "road" bikes.
Contrary to popular fred belief, most road bikes aren't used for racing. For race bikes, I'm sure weight is a primary concern. But for the other 99%, it's a moot argument. Saying they're no good for all road bikes because racers don't want them is extremely myopic.
