Neil, my grandfather worked at the Columbia factory for his entire career and after he died his bikes ended up hanging in my parents' barn. One of them looks just like yours above but is brown and basically NOS. After reading your post I'm going to dig it out and take it for a ride! (the other bike up there is a 100th anniversary gold edition 10 speed--absolute junk bike and very poorly made, kind of sad)
Alex, that's very cool! That rig you see is actually not particularly heavy, which was part of what made it a great climber. And with steel rims, too.
