On the trainer when I was being fit and just riding casually around the neighborhood (no more than 9mph) everything was fine. I then went out for a longer, faster ride this weekend and within the first 4 miles of my ride my left knee hurt on the sides. My left hip is rotated forward slightly. Before I put on the cycling peddles, my left foot angled out to the left when I put my foot in the cage and my heel would hit the crank bar. I assume this is the correct position for my foot since it naturally seems to sit in the cage that way. It was the first time I've ever ridden with cages and the first time my heel hit the crank bar in the 23 years I've known how to ride a bike. I assume that it is because of the restriction from the cage not allowing my put to sit far enough on the outside of my peddle.
My questions are the following:
1. Does that sound right that my foot might angle out that way?
2. Do they make peddle extenders so that if I have to angle the cleat enough my heal won't hit the crank bar?
3. Is it even possible to angle the cleat that much?
I also live in Walnut Creek. The Pedaler in El Sobrante has been reccomended as a great place to get fit on your bike. I think it's ~80$. A little closer to home Pleasant Hill Cyclery has Specialized-trained fit guys. Basic fitting is 20, dyanmic fit is 100, pro fit is 200. They also do cleat positioning for 60 using the "Fit Kit" system. not a shill, just passing on info. I have tried neither but plan to schedule an appointment at The Pedaler next week.
