The R600 crankset weighs about 100 grams more than a standard fc-6600 crank. It has solid arms which probably make the difference. The chainrings are nice, and it shifts well. In terms of stiffness, any differences are not noticeable to me.

The R600 and R700 are not current products, and you can probably get a good deal on them.
