Over in Asheville there is some of the best in the area in the Pisgah Nat'l forest, there is some incredible trails down in Cane Creek, and some good trails and lift assisted trails in the Boone area (Sugar and Beech Mtn). Not to mention the already mentioned Tsali trails.
Go to your local shop, there is a book (can't remember title) that is entirely about trails in NC! You won't have to travel far to get to some great riding. Heck, I drive 12+ hours on long weekends to get to where you are!
