Yes, Miles From Nowhere definitely. Also, Over the Hills (mentioned above) is quite good.

A non-biking road book, Blue Highways, by William Least Heat-Moon, is also to be recommended. He ambles about the country in a simply-appointed van, and his musings and the people he meets are good lessons in how to go.
