My go-to bike, the '60 Rudge, came to me when the guy who cut the grass told me about a couple of bikes out on the curb about half a mile away. The same guy bent my lawnmower's crankshaft on a stump later that summer. The landscaper giveth and taketh away.
The coolest part: everything except the headset runs on oil. Which means getting the bike in shape involves an oilcan and a rag. Oil the hubs, oil the bottom bracket, perhaps a drop or two on the controls and in the cable housings. Use the now oily rag to wipe down the paintwork. Finish by oiling the chain, wiping it down and then pumping up the tires.
Pity they never perfected oil-filled tires.
