I'm not so sure. I get WAY more harrassment when I am cycling in my 'kit' than when I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
Typical human insecurity. Humans campartmentalize people into groups to try and simplify things in their head. Thus, the typical human will see a guy in shorts and t-shirts either just trying to get where s(he) is going. But the guy in full 'kit' is showing off and 'thinks he's better.'
People are doing this here as well, obviously because of this issue of the word 'cyclist'. It has been implied that if you are not 'wearing this, or have that bike' then you are not a cyclist and deserve scorn. Therefore, ANYONE who has such a bike and wears the full kit obviously has this opinion. Yep, they do exist.
