Problem with V-brakes on Cyclocross bosses

Hello all, I have another question about my flat bar cyclocross build. I have some XTR V-brakes and levers laying around, so my plan was to put these on this bike. I thought this was a no brainer since it's just v-brakes on canti bosses and I've done that on old MTBs, then I tried it, and it didn't work. I'm having trouble with getting the v-brakes onto the bosses.

It seems that the shape of the boss is thicker around the base than the brake arm's bolt holes. So when I slide it on, it doesn't go all the way down. The rear is passable, but on the fork the little metal pegs don't even rest in the little holes...the just barely get in them.

Has anybody else faces this problem? I've heard of other people putting v-brakes on cyclocross bikes (using a travel agent or equivalent) and all the responses I could find are about THAT issue. Well, mine's a flatbar and I don't have that issue.

I just can't get the brakes arms snugly on the bosses. So maybe I need to replaces the bosses, or file the protruding part down...what a pain! This was supposed to be the easy part. Any experience or advice?
